Assingment 1

What do you think about using blogs? What and how do you think blogs would be useful for education? Some people think using blogs in classrooms is a waste of students’ time. How would you respond?

I like the idea to use blogs for educational purposes, of course the posting has to be moderate. I'll have more to add as we go on with this blog. From listening to Tim Tyson, and his experience it sounds like teachers, parents and students all benefit. Everyone can find great use for this website that does not required the blogger to know anything about creating a website.
Personally I would not substitute the parents meetings, by a blog for a parent to keep up with his/her child. A blog can help the parents keep up with the activities at school, it is the responsability of both the parents to ask the teacher, and the teacher to approach the parents to discuss the students progress.
I dont think blogs are a waste of time for students, students waste more time playing video games, talking on the phone with friends, and other things that are not educational. A blog that focuses on their progress in school is not a waste of time, instead it is beneficial for the parents and the students to know what the homework is, to know which subject the student has trouble with and gives the parents a closer look at the teachers.

  1. Hello Hiram.
My name is Billie and I am responding to your post. I agree with you when you say blogs aren't a waste of time and it is good for both the students and the parent. I like your ideas and I would like it if you visited my page and viewed my ideas.

  2. Hey Hiram,
This is Dustin from class and I also agree with your and Billie's opinion that blogging is not a waste of time, but instead a useful tool for communicating.

  3. Hey Hiram,

This is Herbert from class and yes I totally agree with your opinion. Children in today's society spend so much time on Xboxes and Playstations. Since a lot of teens spend time with Myspace or Facebook that with blogs it lets them be creative and have fun with their school work. Also, it is a way to help each other with their homework in such.

  4. hey man, i liked what you wrote about blogging in schools/class. I agree with what you wrote. I tried tennis a few times but it is not my game. I have a hard time getting the ball over the net and my serve stinks.

  5. Hi Hiram,
I like that you mentioned how you would not substitute a face to face parent conference with blogging but at the same time still emphasized that blogging is a useful tool. I like what you wrote. Do you prefer Nadal, Federer, or maybe someone else James Blake maybe?
